Pastors Corner

2 Timothy 4:7-8

7 I have found a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Paul knew the end of his days was approaching..and when we look at verse 7

He wants us to see his undying faith..he had fought the good fight..finished the race..and kept the faith..he knew a reward awaited him in heaven..He wanted us to see that the way to a successful life..and a reward in the hereafter..was to keep the faith

We must realize that in good and bad times how important it is to keep the faith.

Facing the storms of life can be trying to ones faith..but without faith how can you survive.

When weeks ago I was diagnosed with esophagus could have been devastating..with out my faith and knowing there is a purpose in all God allows.

Our very first trip to the Cancer Center brought me in contact with an ex member of the church with lung cancer..I prayed for him and ministered to him realizing …that this was not a chance encounter.

But Gods plan.

I continue to pray for him and others suffering from cancer..accepting Gods will.

We all need to take time and realize how short life really helps us to not forget that every breath..every breath is allowed by the will of God

Like the Apostle Paul our trust in Jesus should never waiver

Lord I totally surrender to you.

Remembering that life is short..and you alone control its length

Help me keep the faith..standing strong against my flesh and this world..being true to the end

In Jesus name..Amen

Been away a while

I have to admit I never saw it coming.

Had been thinking of doing a blog for a while..had my thoughts..good name..then I got blindsided..cancer of the esophagus. I was a 10 year survivor of prostate cancer ..all the check ups and bang there it was..has left Cat and I set back a bit.

Then the hackers got into my social media accounts..had to cancel one and lost control of the other. All kinds of garbage being sent under my name and apparently can’t do a thing. Anyway don’t know what is in store for us but I think cat and I will start walking our blog again.

Who knows maybe we can give others either inspiration or insight.

So Cat and I will yell at you later. By the way never underestimate cat…..he has not left my side since I became ill..a friend in need is a friend indeed

Things I Miss 2.0

My career found my wife and I working in the New York City area six to seven times a year. We were frequent guests at the Murray Hill Suites and they actually had a designated room for our stay…303.

We enjoyed New York…the hustle and bustle..but the food was always outstanding. During our stays, I fell in love with good Jewish delicatessen food and the two that stood out were located on 7th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

Ironically not only were they on 7th within blocks of each other but they both opened the same year in 1937.

The Carnegie Deli opened next door to Carnegie Hall andwas located at 854 7th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

The Stage Deli, located on Seventh Avenue just two blocks from Carnegie Hall and ‘it’s longstanding rivalry…the nearby Carnegie Deli.

When you went into the Stage Deli you never knew who would be sitting in there eating and many of the frequent celebrities actually had items on the menu named for them

Sadly both deli’s closed within four years of each other.

In my senior years I have placed on my bucket list to find a decent deli where I could enjoy enjoy a bowl of Matzo Ball soup and a kosher corned beef on rye sandwich.

The other day meeting our daughter Melissa, Rick and family for lunch …I am pleased to announce being able to cross off a bucket list entry.

I found the Stage Deli of West Bloomfield, Michigan and it was great.

Not only was the food delicious but ironically it was called the Stage Deli.

My Matzo Ball soup was so good I had to take a bite before I photographed it.

And my corned beef on rye was as good as I remembered in New York City. A mile high pile of corned beef on great ride with  amazing yellow deli mustard. I was in heaven.

Melissa even found a vegan item on the menu that she said would bring her back for more.

The Annie Hall
avocado, cucumber, havarti, lettuce, tomato, thin onion, basil-garlic mayo, pumpernickel

Although Linda enjoyed her Matzo Ball soup… she opted for a salad that she loved…Chinese Chicken Salad.

Chinese Chicken Salad
sliced chicken breast, mandarin orange, toasted almonds, green onions, crispy rice noodles, shredded carrot, sesame-ginger dressing

The Stage Deli hit a home run with our party..the food was a little pricey but you are in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The only negative was even with reservations we waited almost 1/2 hour after our reservation. Definitely need reservations for party of 6 or more. I say thumbs up and another thing scratched from my bucket list.

Pastors Corner….Running from God

Jonah 1
King James Version (KJV)
1 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

4 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.

10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.

11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.

14 Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.

15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

16 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows.

17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Separation…ever found yourself separated

Ever been somewhere and got separated from your your kids…scary……call the state police….call the National Guard…send for Seal Team 6….you are looking for that lost child and believe me failure is not an option.

You have been separated and need to realize that God is pursuing you……He is pursuing you so that He can show you how much He loves you.

God is not coming after us for a smack down.

Nothing is further from the truth…

In Luke, Jesus tells a story….the story of the Prodigal Son…

God is like a Father who lost his son…

who misses his son…………..

who longs for his son’s return……

And like a father that when his son returns…..he runs to him and throws his arms around him and covers him with kisses.

God loves you, and God will forgive you of any sin you ever committed.

God is pursuing you this morning……so stop running from Him.

Lately every time I listened to Christian Radio, Christian TV, or read… the same message kept coming forth….stop running from God.

I want to bring you a story of a man that tried to run from God.

Jonah…..the prophet

In the Bible we see two types of people…those that rebel against God..and those who willingly come under His authority.

The Bible portrays individuals that either yield to the will of God or rebel against it.

Jonah was truly a rebel.

He failed to recognize Gods authority and ran from Him.

When you talk about Jonah one thing comes to mind?

Jonah and the _.

That’s right, we al think of that Whale and because of that we sometimes see the story as a fairy tale…..a fable …..a myth… but it is a true story…

Matthew 12:40 says, “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

No matter…whale…big fish..or sea serpent …Jesus said, “, “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”…….the story was validated.

Jonah 1
1Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
2Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

How many have ever tried to run from God?

You thought that God was keeping you from being popular…..having a good time…..or just out to mess up your life.

Nothing is further from the truth!

The Bible tells us that God is Good.

The Word said,” Give thanks to the Lord cause He is Good, and His mercy endures forever.”

And I am here to tell you that Gods plans for you that are a lot better than your plans for yourself.

In Jeremiah 29:11 it is written, “
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Jesus said…..I have come so that you could live a rich, full and meaningful life.

As sure as there is a God that loves you…be sure there is a devil that hates you.

A devil that wants to destroy your life.

Jesus said of Satan…..the thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.

But Jesus has come to give life because God is good.

But sometimes we run from God.

Being a Christian is not easy.

Not only is God good but God is love….You see these Ninavites that Jonah was called to minister to….they were wicked….cruel people….that is why Jonah did not want to go….he was a patriotic Israelite….it would be like God singling out a present day Israelite and telling him to go into Iran and preach to them…..

You have to understand that the greatest fear that Jonah had…. was that God would forgive Nineveh….and his hope was that God would pull a Sodom and Gomorrah and completely destroy them.

Then there would be one less enemy that Israel would have to contend with…and simply that is why Jonah didn’t want to go.

God said GO.

Jonah said NO

God said OH!

You know the Lord will always have the last word, even inspite of the wickedness of the Ninavites, God loved them and was giving them a second chance.

Thank God for second chances.

Where would any of us be without a second chance.

God loves you….And no matter what sin you have committed….He will forgive you….if you turn and repent from that sin.

Jonah got the Word….packed his knapsack….up and left….But left in the wrong direction

And the scripture tells us he went down…..and I mean to tell you that is where sin is always going to take you…DOWN

We don’t plan on it….but one thing does lead to another

That thing that ruined that marriage….that relationship

That unexpected pregnancy that turned your world up side down

That first 40….first joint….or nickel bump that turned to an addiction

The end of your life is determined from its beginning…..the little things that you don’t think are trouble now….. will turn into big things issues later.

Years ago when I was playing golf…I was on the 8th green at the Polhcat in Mt Pleasant, Mi, and a baby rattle snake was crossing the green.

Sort of interesting, everything in minature, tiny fangs…little rattle on the tail…about three inches long but though small its bite just as venomous as its momma.

Got out my ball retriever….gave it a free ride into a ravine…unhurt.

Just like sin…….just a little sin……I’ll never do it again sin…….it doesn’t count sin…….but little things turn into big things.

And that’s what happened to Jonah.

We all knew people growing up that started drinking….probably under age…….first a little Natty Daddy….made him the life of the party…then a little weed…then you didn’t see much of him anymore once he arrived….because he was hidden away somewhere shooting up or sucking on a shooter.

That’s sin and it just takes you down….and down…and sin will take you further down than you want to go…it will keep you longer than you want to stay…..and it will cost you more than you want to spend….not a road you want to travel .

So the Storm comes…..the wind….the rain…and this wasn’t just a normal nasty storm…cause even the sailors were hanging over the rails….they were used to rough………but they had never seen anything like this before.

God designed…a supernatural tempest just to get our prophets attention.

Has God designed or allowed a wake up call in your life recently……that call from the doctor…..the lawyer…your bank…to make you realize how much you really need Him.

The scripture tells us these sailors are freaking out…calling to there gods..none of them had that right..I know one thing is for sure when we are in trouble we always seem to call out to God…I know I sure do.

The only problem is that when God brings you through you say thanks God…….see you the next crisis.

Oh God if you just get me through this I promise to change and follow you…he does…and we never keep our end of the bargain.

That’s what these sailors were doing…they were trying out to their gods..but none of them had the right god so they cast lots and they figured out there problem was the stranger calmly sleeping below deck.

Downstairs they grabbed and woke him and said we figured out………you are the cause of this storm.

Jonah tells them he is a Hebrew serving the Lord God of Heaven…who made heaven and earth…the sailors are blown away… see they had heard of the God of Isreal..who parted seas…..who sent food from heaven…the God who raises the dead and they’re saying to him…you think you can run from a God like that.

Nothing is worse than being busted by a non believer…..especially if there right.

You ever had that happen….a non Christian telling you I thought you were a Christian….Oh I Am….then why are you doing that?

Well good question.

Sometimes we are like Jonah…we’ve lost our testimony…we just aren’t representing Jesus as we should.

Let me just say something…if you are looking for a hypocrite free church….please don’t join it you’ll ruin it.

You feel me….Every Christian is going to be inconsistent at times….so let me apologize for all those Christians that have not been the best representatives of Christ…but Jesus didn’t say follow my people….He said FOLLOW ME!

Jesus will never be a hypocrite if you follow him.

Saying that you don’t do to church because there are to many hypocrites is a cop out.

Why would you run from a God like this….. the sailors asked Jonah.

Isn’t it amazing that some times non believers have a better idea of what believers should do, then believers have.

So these non believing men are saying to Jonah…Why would you run from a God like that……and that’s a real good question …why are you running from God…..He just wants to love you….He just wants to forgive you.

Today is the day that you stop running from God and turn towards Him.

Pastors Corner …the Canaanite Woman

Love the story of the Canaanite woman and how she puts herself in position for a blessing. But there is so much more to the story..we all certainly know how to act when we get an answer from God…the miracle occurs..the unexpected check comes in the mail..the tumor is gone..but how many of us know how to react in the middle of your crisis to SILENCE. Absolute Silence.

Read with me the following scripture.

Matthew 15:21-28 New International Version (NIV)

The Faith of a Canaanite Woman

21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

25 The woman came and knelt before him.“Lord, help me!” she said.

26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

27 “ Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.”And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Jesus is on a road trip with his disciples..getting away from it all. He has left Genneseret..where he had been pressed by the multitude.. to Tyre and Sidon.

The Canaanite woman obviously hears of Jesus .. recognizing him as a deliverer and healer…and sets out on her quest to find Him.

She has tried’s time to get radical. Sets out by herself..hitting the road..leaving everything for the one man she knows can help her child.

What would you do for your child.

We don’t know her journey..long or short..thru the valley..fording streams..but she finally catches up..

“Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

She cries out..again..and again..and again..what does she get…silence

The loving Jesus

The caring Jesus

The miracle working Jesus

Gives her silence.

But she has become radical..she didn’t go through everything she had gone through to accept silence or be quiet.

She cried out so long that the disciples pleaded for Jesus to send her away. But she had not come this far to be sent away.

She continued until finally she got a response but not what she was looking for

He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

She was a Canaanite..not a Israelite..but she knew how to get His attention in His silence…through worship..have mercy…help me….as she drops to her knees…help me…Son of David

You can see the change..the paradigm shift…he replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

It is almost as if he is wrestling with himself..if you keep it up woman I just might have to bless you

I don’t want to cause the blessing is not for you…but I might have to.

She didn’t care if He called her a dog..she was there for her daughter..what ever it took..a dog sure I’m a dog…

“Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

There she had Him..kneeling at His feet in position..My God listen to what I am saying…she was in position for her blessing.

Dogs would be at their masters feet..some even curled on their laps..just waiting for a scrap…a crumb…a crumb

Any amount of the blessing that fell to her would still be a blessing.

Analysis a has every substance used in the making of the whole.

The children’s blessing…the bread..a crumb of blessing was the same as the whole loaf.

Be in position for your blessing..even if it is just a crumb from the masters table

Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.”And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Mind Tripping..Sicily..2.0

Linda decided 1 more trip to the hot tub and pool before she called it a night.

..the bedroom is great but I’ve grabbed a couple pillows and a blanket..headed for the veranda..pulled up a recliner to sleep out here underneath the stars. The sky is amazing..a billion stars. Cat has curled up on the blanket between my legs as I lay under the stars sipping on a cognac…never had one before but fits in the fantasy. I can see the coast from here..every once and a while I can see a boats lights on the Mediterranean. Don’t get any better than this.

The reality is laying in the recliner in the living room..aching..cold feet…Cat paw pawing trying to get comfortable on top of me. Then I close my eyes.. see the millions of twinkling stars..Cat and I smell and feel the breeze off the sea..Cat and I relax and time for sleep.

Tomorrow is another day and think it’s going to be a beach day.

The sun is is starting rise out of the sea. While everyone is still sleeping..finished up Acts 27 and as I begin chapter 28….

Acts 28 New International Version (NIV)

Paul Ashore on Malta

28 Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold. Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.” But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.

There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days. His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him. When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. 10 They honored us in many ways; and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed.

Paul’s Arrival at Rome

11 After three months we put out to sea in a ship that had wintered in the island—it was an Alexandrian ship with the figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux. 12 We put in at Syracuse and stayed there three days.

I realize that on his trip to Rome the Apostle Paul was shipwrecked on Malta a little south of here and as he continued his voyage he spent 3 days in Syracuse, which is about 17 miles away.

Coffee is done.. it is a lot stronger than I am used to but the fresh goats milk seems to mellow it enough to make it palatable. Even Cat is enjoying a saucer of goats milk this morning.

Who me!

Left a note that I would be back and cat and I are heading down to the beach. Laying on the dashboard Cat watches the Sicilian countryside slip by as we take the 15 minute drive to the coast. Since it is off season the beach is deserted.

With Cat on his lead..I take off my shoes walking on the edge of the water….. with Cat as far away from the water as he can get.

Now let’s get real…isn’t it better imagining your next to the water with Cat and I then the reality of this…..

I rest my case! Cat and I chase off some gulls..pick up some interesting drift wood and head back to the car..after cat digs himself a couple holes in what he thinks is the worlds biggest litter box.

We pull up to the Villa as the housekeeper is clearing Linda’s breakfast dishes. If you’re going to have a fantasy…you might as well have a staff.

After dropping Cat be watched by the pool boy..Linda and I head back to the beach.

Noto Marina Beach, Sicily

Town of Noto

Spending most of the day exploring the area …relaxing..and enjoying the sunshine, headed to the Villa to get ready to head into town for dinner.

Ristorante Crocifisso Is in Noto Alta, this is Slow Food not fast food…asking the locals it is an acclaimed restaurant with an extensive wine list.

Ristorante Crocifisso is widely regarded as Noto’s best and we look forward to sampling some truly Sicilian food.

Sicilian classics such as macco di fave (broad bean purée with ricotta and toasted breadcrumbs) and casarecce alla palermitana (short handmade pasta with sardines and wild fennel) are complemented by juicy roast lamb, Marsala-glazed pork and pistachio- and sesame-crusted tuna.

One of the best restaurants we have visited.

We were told to drop by this elegant restaurant but little did we know that it boasts a Michelin Hat!

We enjoyed every bite.

Great Food

It deserves every bit of credit for winning the award. The staff are very friendly and are ever helpful. The prices are reasonable for a Michelin restaurant and the servings are decent. It’s out of the way but worth a shot! We would be back here in a heartbeat. Go for the food….food….and more food!

Time to head back to the Villa, picked up a bottle of local wine and looking forward to a quiet evening. My fantasy so I guess I can extend it another day.

Buona notte e dio vi benedica

Mind tripping

The song by John Denver said, “ In my mind I’m going to Carolina.”…not me…I’m sick of the cold…the snow..the ice…no more polar vortex for me. In my mind I’m going someplace warm.

Sick of the cold

I have neither the money..time…or opportunity to go for real.

Seems everyone I know is off to somewhere warm…sunny…anywhere but here. There going to Florida…there going to Arizona…Vegas…Maui…the Pacific Rim…even off to Israel.

Tonight decided I’m mind tripping to Sicily for three or four days. Don’t get scared.. even though a child of the 60’s I am not going to drop acid..shrooms.. or another mind altering substance….I am just going to use something rarely used today….the imagination.

Going to take the wife along but she won’t have nearly as much fun because the trip will be in my mind.

So tonight I’ll start packing…booking the flights from Detroit….to Sicily. Reserving the villa on the Mediterranean..pool and hot tub included,…renting a nice convertible..and planning our trip.

Booked a seventeen hour direct flight on Delta Airline…to Catania Airport..rented car..then will have a hour drive to Villa Noto.

Not much on flying anymore at my age but I have a feeling this trip will go smoothly …no problems with TSA….luggage…or reservations…the only problem is having someone check on Cat and feed him. Maybe I’ll just bring him in carry on …it’s my fantasy.

I think I’ll have him trained to a leash and if the wife decides to stay by the pool or hot tub.. he can accompany me sightseeing.

Decided my first trip should be Italy…my best friends for some reason always seem to be Italian.

Also I want to be warm…on the water.. and access to good food. Think that Sicily will fit the bill.

The misses won’t like it but I’d like to see some of the Roman ruins and maybe take a trip up to Mt Elba the volcano. While I’m gone I know she’ll enjoy the books she brought and laying around the pool.

Here we are departing DTW for Sicily …as expected no problem getting on fantasy so no problems. The flight is fine..Cat is sleeping in his cage..and we are on our way.

We are traveling 1st a fantasy why travel any other way. The stewardesses are bringing our dinner and Cat is still napping.

Dinner was acceptable..even in a fantasy airplane food ain’t that great..after a couple more hours Catania airport is in sight.. beautiful…no snow on the ground but can see a little snow on the top of Mt Elba in the distance, and the water is amazing. First time to Europe and the city is strictly old world…..spread out beneath us.

Wood cafe, the picturesque airport restaurant is closed as we clear customs and head for our rental car. Picked up our Opel Insignia after a slight wait…see even in my fantasy couldn’t get the convertible I wanted from Hertz Catania Aeroporta but the people were helpful and spoke fluent English

Car is packed..we are on our way to Villa tub..large flat screen with satellite..air conditioning and WiFi. Only 55 miles and we can really relax….no ice…no cold…about 60 degrees..sun is coming up and almost to the Villa.

Cat is awake and hungry..clean the cage and food and water

Hard to believe 24 hours ago I was freezing in Michigan and now here we are on the Mediterranean getting ready to enjoy our getaway.

As we get closer I am amazed at the landscape on the way to the Villa …reminds me of the arid areas around Las Vegas or Arizona.

Well here we are..looked better in the brochure..but for pure fantasy ain’t to bad

Villa Noto

Got to go check out the hot tub and pool and get unpacked . Wow… nice pool and hot tub.

Cat can’t wait to find some sand.. thinks it’s one big litter box

Pool is everything the misses wanted and for a mind trip better than wading through the snow.

Unpacked..straightened out the luggage..turned on the flat screen..funny to see I Love Lucy reruns in Italian. Time for the hot tub to get our bodies relaxed after the flight.

Wish you were here…hell wish I was here!

So nice to be outside in the sun again..almost feel human again. Cat found a cushion to curl up on an is purfectly happy…little play on words.

Linda’s going to hang by the pool and read her new James Patterson novel while I walk around a bit.

What a view of the coast and the nearest beach is about 15 minutes away.

The Mediterranean

Really different grounds around the Villa..nice in a rustic sort of way…fantastic views of both the surrounding typical Sicilian countryside and the coast.

I really like the seclusion…it’s relaxing..and we are close enough to drive to some of Sicily’s beautiful towns and beaches.

Even though it’s off season it is great. Noto Marina beach is only 10 minutes away. Time to get Linda out of the pool and head into town to the out door market we saw this morning.

We can always find a flea market

Afraid I have to get back to reality..but this is a good place to head back to the Villa after an afternoon of shopping and sightseeing.

Tasty Tantalizing Tidbits pt2

The Oyster…every once in a while on Facebook you see a post imagining the first person to try a raw oyster. Had to have been very hungry..but they got a pleasant surprise

Hard to believe that as early as the 1st century the ancient romans were farming oysters.

There are oysters raised all over the world for consumption but of all the oysters I have tried …give me the oysters from the Chesapeake Bay…specifically Chincoteague, Va area.

Blue points are good but there is something about the oysters from the Bay.

Raw……or Rockefeller….delicious.

Back in the day I can remember several times a year going to my good friend..Paul Bonaccorsi’s house with a group of friends for a good old oyster roast in his basement.

Paul and me

A barrel of oysters..bring your own shucking knife…and Paul’s Oyster Stew…

The following recipe is the closest I ever came to his stew.

1 pt shucked oysters with juice

1 qt hot milk

1/4 cup butter

Salt and pepper to taste

Cook oysters in there own juice..(called liquor)..until the edges curl…roughly 5 minutes

Add milk, butter, salt and pepper. HEAT BUT DO NOT BOIL. Serve st once..some people like a little bit of “Old Bay seasoning” sprinkled on top…I prefer without.

Remember do not boil.

This will make about 6 delicious servings… By the way you can get oysters already shucked in can with juice at your supermarket.

In case someone wants to broaden their horizons…one of my favorite ways of eating oysters other than raw..would be good old Eastern Shore Oyster Fritters

1 pt shucked oysters

1/2 cup evaporated milk

1 cup pancake mix (any brand)

2 tablespoons corn meal

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1 cup cooking oil

Drain the raw oysters and drain the juice and save it…put the oysters in a bowl and add milk. Add pancake batter, corn meal, salt and pepper. Mix this well all together..the batter will be thick.

Heat oil in 10” frying pan…I prefer cast iron…drop the batter in the oil making sure to include 2 oysters in tablespoon of batter…cook till brown on one side…should e a minute or two…turn over carefully and brown the other side…this should make about 18 fritters.

Note: if batter gets to thick on you..thin with the oyster juice you saved.

Making myself hungry..drop a comment if you’d like me to share more of mine or grandma’s Maryland seafood recipes. Bon Appetite. Enjoy your day.

Gone From Us

Gone from us that smiling face

the cheerful pleasant ways,

Girls day out

The heart that won so many friends,

In bygone happy days.

The Ballenger girls

A life made beautiful by kindly deeds,

A helping hand for others needs.

To a beautiful life,

Comes a happy end.

The captain

She died as she lived,

Everyone ‘s friend.

Will always remember her card games

John 11:25-26

I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me; though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die, Believeth thou this!
