Pastors Corner

Think I’ll be writing some notes and scripture weekly..

Matthew 6:24-34 New International Version (NIV)

24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

The Word tells us we serve the Lord in our minds..and it is surely in our mind where we fight the biggest battles…Joyce Meyers calls it the Battlefield of the Mind.

The enemy comes against our spirit in various ways..depression..frustration…worry..loneliness..fear..and anxiety.

I am sure we have all experienced anxiety..and the biggest problem is that you can’t always talk to somebody about it.

Your at home or at work…your overwhelmed..your stressing out and ready to pull whatever hair you have left out of your head.

I recently posted on Facebook…

What good are all the things you’ve accumulated if you can’t really enjoy them because all you do is worry all the time about losing them!

Isn’t it special that you don’t believe that the God that was God enough to give it..isn’t God enough to keep it.

Yesterday my message to the church God has intrusted to me was when anxiety attacks…

when your stressed…

when your worried..

when your nervous..

your kicking the cat (Sorry Cat)

open your mouth and pray.

And don’t just pray..humble yourself…praise Him for the victory…hold on to His promise…and no matter what comes against you count your blessings.

Today’s tantalizing tidbits

Cat just jumped on my lap and is waiting for something to happen. Actually had a couple people stop by the blog and liked the Crab Cake recipe . If they like the recipe wait till they try them. Cats licking his lips.

6 medium to large old white potatoes

1/2 cup diced white onion

3 hard boiled eggs cut in chunks

Let’s get started

Boil potatoes in skins..refrigerate over night..peel and cube..add onions..hard boiled bowl

I think if you try this you will be very pleased,…. once you try it drop me a comment and tell me how good it was.

Things I miss pt2

After my last post realized after 75 years how much I do miss…..watching the kids grow up….walking the streets of New York City until 3:00 in the morning and not being afraid…a great corn beef on rye at the Stage Deli….walking the Boardwalk…driving way to fast the “ seven sister curves” at Loch Raven Dam in an MG…white water rafting on the Gun Powder river after a storm…hanging out in Fells Point in the late 60’s…dancing till dawn….walking down the Grand Canyon to the Arizona River..the big cities, Chicago, Baltimore, New York, Las Vegas, Washington D C, Miami, and Philadelphia.

You ate in good restaurants without Gorman Ramsay scaring you to death

I miss Ruth Criss Steak Houses…Tony Roma’s..Peking Duck…Hausners…Little Italy..The Stage…Rosie O’ Grady’s…the spots in the Village…those little ma and pa crab shacks and barbecue joints

I miss the safer, less technical time when people actually interacted with each other…not thru smartphone, iPads or computers.

The days growing up when you handled problems head on.. not worrying about guns or knives.

Schools were safe…you walked miles to school without fear.

God was in the home….the church and in schools. You respected the flag,,..your teacher..each other.

There was terrible social injustice….but with the help of God change started….it wasn’t easy but it started.

Then I watched everything going crazy…Norman Lear portrayed the American an over guzzling..idiot in a stained T-shirt

Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver were no more

The assault on the family continues to this day….God was expelled from school..the rule was if it felt good do it…the day of the statesman was the 40’s you went to work for the government if you could not get a real you go because you never lose your job.. your benefits are better than the rest of the country..and if you play you cards right you can parlay your influence into millions.

There were a lot of problems.. but there were a lot of positives, but “ we are not in Kansas anymore Toto.”

Things I miss

The better half just made lunch…Cat is laying at my feet watching me eat..and I am thinking of the food I dearly miss.

Being from the east coast…I miss my seafood probably the most.

Steamed hard shell crabs…makes my mouth water

Found a passable substitute for the raw oysters I miss at Fishbones Restaurant in the Greektown area. But no hard shell crabs…if anybody ever reads this and knows where I can get hard shells shoot me a comment…Where to go.

The oysters were so good st Fishbones ..we were in Virginia Beach last year and the raw oysters didn’t hold a candle to Fishbones

Hey how about I share a great recipe of mine

1 egg

1 piece white bread ( no crust)

1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley

1 tablespoon Worcester sauce

The biggest issue for the seasoned new blogger is the direction to walk your blog.

So many life experiences

So many hobbies

So many interests

Which way do you travel? And making sure that in your newness…you don’t wax poetic and some how lose everything you have written. Direction…Direction…Direction

Let me reflect..the Lord is the center of my life..then wife and family and friends . But without the Lord nothing works.

Love the beach, ocean and warm here I sit in Michigan….go figure…but in my latter days realize you serve where you are called!

Enjoy oil painting…and will definitely show some of my works and if something strikes your fancy it could be yours for the right price. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..some of the paintings I’ve sold I didn’t like.

Showing my paintings

Definitely have a heart for the underdog..have worked with homeless for almost 18 years in the Flint area..deep concern for animals..and if you feel for the underdog you have to support the Detroit Lions

Just another loss

There are so many directions that this could my sermons on Sunday think I’ll let the Lord lead me with a nudge or two from Cat.

How about some background

Blogging I think is a natural for we seasoned I sit after 75 interesting trip to say the least…not just sitting and contemplating my navel but given an opportunity to pontificate ( that’s a good word Gary right it down) on just about everything. No one may ever see it or read it but should be fun..anyway Cat thinks so.

By the way Gary is the elder of the church..I have been called to pastor in Flint..I know I lost you already..yep I am one of those..a born again christians..and a pastor at this age..go figure

Elder Gary.. a fun thing with old is not alway remembering the word you want an a larger more complex  word comes out and i have Gary save them for me

So anyway I see Flo’s sister on the Progressive commercial writing her blog so Cat and I figure we’ll give it a try..where were we….?????

Cat just climbed up on my lap so he could review what I was writing.

Anyway just a few comments on’s technical..

The kids of today have an expression for people of our seasoning….Aunt Tillys..and there right. If you could have seen how long it took to figure just the elementaries of blogging. But I warn them we start out slow but finish strong,..probably a good start..anyway Cat wants some attention..see you on the flip side

In the mean time be nice to someone and try not to be to big of an _____.
